Cuban Poetry: Before and After
 
Course Description
 
Students in this workshop will study classic and contemporary Cuban poetry. The workshop will include the classics from various periods, from the XVIII century to the XX century, including recent authors.
 
How it works
 
In our online classroom you will receive a series of lessons with corresponding homework. The first month will cover the classics and their era. The second month will take on Cuban authors from the classics through the social and historical unrest of the first fifty years of the XX century. The third month will cover the Cuban revolution of 1959 to today via the revolutionary period's most prominent poets, from early to current works, including Cuban poets who for various reasons no longer reside on the island.
Students' literary critiques of the poems read will be evaluated and reviewed by the professor.

General Objectives
 
To broaden the student’s knowledge of all periods of Cuban poetry.
 
Specific Objectives
 
To learn about the different paths taken by Cuban poetry from its inception to today. To gain access to a bounty of poetic knowledge with priceless intellectual value.
 
Methodology
 
Students will write brief weekly essays.
 
Students will learn about the authors covered in the curriculum through group or individual participation.
